A short dance film, Inspired by Andrew Wyeth's 1948 painting, "Christina's World". Christina has a private moment as she navigates her relationship with her ailing body.
Christina’s World Premiered at the Cascadia Dance & Cinema Festival in Vancouver and was an official selection of the Capitol Dance & Cinema Festival in DC. The film has been made public and is being used to raise awareness for the Hereditary Neuropathy Foundation.
Christina's World is a 1948 painting by American painter Andrew Wyeth, and one of the best-known American paintings of the middle 20th century. It depicts a woman lying on the ground in a treeless, mostly tawny field, looking up at a gray house on the horizon; This work, done in a reaslist style called magical realism is currently on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, as a part of its permanent collection.
The woman in the painting is Anna Christina Olson (3 May 1893 – 27 January 1968). She is likely to have suffered from Charcot–Marie–Tooth disease a genetic polyneuropathy. (a degenerative nerve and muscular disorder). Wyeth was inspired to create the painting when he saw her crawling across a field while he was watching from a window in the house.
Note From the Director: I have always been drawn to this painting. There is something very narrative and emotional in this woman’s body language and the painting as a whole. As a fan of magical realism, I began to research Andrew Wyeth and this work, in the beginning stages of writing the script. When I discovered that the subject was a real person with this disease, I knew that this story leant itself to magical realism within a dance film . A woman who explores her relationship to her own body is always timely and universal. The alignment of this film was truly magical, as shortly after I wrote the piece I found out a friend of mine discovered she had Charcot Marie Tooth disease. She became a consultant on the film and I hope it will bring awareness not only to body awareness and body appreciation but to the Charcot Marie Tooth Association and also to the Hereditary Neuropathy Foundation.

The set was intimate with a crew of 3, myself as Director, Rebecca Reaney as Movement Coach and Senda Bonnet as Cinematographer with Conor Eiding as our lead.
After weeks of rehearsal, we had established that we were creating a very internal story, so I choose to keep the set and crew as minimal as possible.
